Bio

Nigerian-American composer, percussionist, and vocalist Tosin Aribisala has pioneered a genre-defying sound he calls "Alternative Afrobeat"—a multidimensional fusion that seamlessly blends jazz, gospel, rock, folk, Afrobeat, and traditional Yoruba rhythms.

Drawing inspiration from musical legends including Tony Allen, Fela Kuti, Art Blakey, Bob Marley, Weather Report's Joe Zawinul, and Sting, Tosin creates music that transcends cultural boundaries while honoring his roots. His childhood in Lagos, Nigeria, gifted him fluency in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin English—languages that enrich both his songwriting and vocal performances, complementing his commanding presence behind the drum kit.

Tosin's multicultural approach to music has led to powerful collaborations with world-class artists. His recent partnership with multiple GRAMMY award-winning pianist Arturo O'Farrell and The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra resulted in his latest single, "The Big Illusion," showcasing his ability to bridge diverse musical traditions. His impressive collaborative history includes sharing stages with South African jazz icon Hugh Masekela, Afrobeat royalty Femi Kuti, Malian songstress Fatoumata Diawara, and numerous other distinguished artists.

Through his propulsive grooves and cross-cultural musical vision, Tosin continues to push the boundaries of contemporary world music, creating sounds that speak to universal human experiences while celebrating the rich tapestry of his African heritage.
